Australia’s opener, David Warner, has a message for his team’s top order. The crucial third Test against India begins on December 14. Warner stressed that the batting duty cannot rest solely on Usman Khawaja. This is despite fans wanting to replace him.

Top Order Under Pressure in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Australia heads into the Brisbane Test on the back of a convincing 10-wicket win in Adelaide. However, questions loom over the consistency of the top order. Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, and Mitchell Marsh have failed to perform in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

  • Usman Khawaja: 34 runs in three innings
  • Steve Smith: 19 runs at an average of 6.33
  • Mitchell Marsh: Minimal impact so far

Marnus Labuschagne scored a gritty 64 in the Adelaide Test. Warner said all six top-order batters must step up to rest Australia’s bowlers.

Warner Calls for Collective Responsibility

“The pressure is on the top order and not just ‘Uzzie’,” said Warner. Travis Head scored a brilliant hundred in the first innings. But, others must support him.

“He can’t score runs everytime. If the top six score runs, it will give rest to the bowlers. The opening game was fast but in the last one Mitchell Starc showed why he is the best with the pink-ball,” he said.

Fan Debate: Khawaja or Konstas?

As fans clamor for Sam Konstas to replace Khawaja in the XI, Warner stood by his teammate, saying,

“That is upto the selectors to decide. They would have picked him if he was ready.”

Warner’s comments suggest he trusts the senior player to perform under pressure.

Third Test Begins December 14

The third Test promises high stakes as Australia looks to build on its momentum. With the series in the balance, all will watch the top six batters in Brisbane. They must rise to the occasion.
