Rohit Sharma’s Take on Virat Kohli’s Form
India captain Rohit Sharma spoke to the media at the MCG on Christmas Eve. He discussed Virat Kohli’s recent struggles in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. When asked about Kohli’s poor form, Rohit confidently said, “You say he is a modern-day great. Modern-day greats will figure out what needs to be done.”
Despite Kohli’s recent struggles outside the off stump, Rohit supported him. He cited Kohli’s record and ability to bounce back.
Virat Kohli’s Performance in BGT 2024-25
Kohli started the series with a dominant, unbeaten 100 in the second innings of the first Test. But, he has struggled for consistency since then. His last three Test scores 5, 100*, 7, 11, and 3 show a clear weakness. Australian bowlers, including Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland, have exploited it.
Sharma’s Adjustments in Batting Order
Rohit Sharma himself has made significant adjustments to his role in the team. To accommodate KL Rahul’s recent success as an opener, Rohit has dropped down the order to bat at No. 6. When asked about this change, he said, “We don’t need to discuss this in every press conference. Let’s leave it to the team management. We will figure it out within the group.”
KL Rahul has rewarded the team’s faith by scoring 235 runs in the series so far, including two crucial half-centuries.
Team Dynamics Ahead of the Boxing Day Test
Aside from Kohli’s struggles, the Indian skipper addressed the young players. This includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant.“We don’t want to complicate things for Pant, Jaiswal and Gill. They know about their roles. Our job is to converse with them about small, small things to motivate them,” Rohit stated.
The team aims to clarify roles and strategy for the Boxing Day Test. Everyone wants to improve batting consistency.
