Jasprit Bumrah’s Injury: Ravi Shastri Warns Rohit, Gambhir Against Risky Return
Ravi Shastri, former head coach of India, has warned Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. He advises them not to rush Jasprit Bumrah back into the playing XI. They should think about the long-term effects first. Bumrah got injured in the fifth Test against Australia. So, he did not bowl in the second innings. He is in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against England. However, he hasn’t joined the team in Nagpur yet.
Shastri Urges Caution After Past Mistakes
Shastri stressed that selectors and team management should learn from past errors. He pointed to 2022, when Bumrah was hurried back for a T20I series against Australia. This decision worsened his injury and kept him out for ten months.
“Don’t take risk as India will play a lot of cricket in the near future. Don’t repeat the mistake of 2022. Bumrah can’t be forced to bowl at this stage of his career. The expectations will always be there but he can’t perform from the first game after an injury,” Shastri said on the ICC Review Show.
Impact on ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Bumrah is in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. His availability may be key to the team’s success. Shastri warned that if the pacer is out of the tournament, it could hurt India’s chances.
“Bumrah not playing in the ICC Champions Trophy will reduce India’s chances by 30-35 percent. Bumrah gives you a luxury of keeping things tight in the death overs as well,” he added.
Bumrah’s Recent Performance

Bumrah shone in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He took 32 wickets and won the Player of the Series award. He boosts India’s bowling team, especially in important tournaments like the Champions Trophy.
