UP Warriorz shocked the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), with a historic Super Over win. This thrilling game occurred in Match 9 of the WPL 2025 season at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Sophie Ecclestone shone in the match, leading the Warriorz to their second win of the season. Her performance outshined Ellyse Perry, who scored an unbeaten 90.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Ellyse Perry Propel RCB to 180-6

RCB faced an early blow when skipper Smriti Mandhana scored just 6 runs. She was dismissed by UP Warriorz captain Deepti Sharma, who took 1 wicket for 42 runs. Danni Wyatt-Hodge fired back strong, scoring 57 runs off 41 balls. Her innings included four boundaries and three sixes.
Wyatt-Hodge’s 94-run partnership with Ellyse Perry provided RCB with a strong foundation. After Tahlia McGrath was dismissed for 1 off 30 balls, Perry stepped up. She scored an unbeaten 90 runs off 56 balls. Her innings included nine fours and three sixes. RCB scored 180-6 in 20 overs, thanks to Perry’s heroics. They lost Richa Ghosh (1-34) to Chinelle Henry, but rallied despite late runouts.
Renuka Singh and Sneh Rana Rattle UP Warriorz Top Order

Chasing 181, UP Warriorz began well. Kiran Navgire scored 24 runs off 11 balls. He and Dinesh Vrinda put together 30 runs in only 2.4 overs. However, Renuka Singh (2-36) struck twice in quick succession, dismissing both openers. Sneh Rana (3-27) broke through the middle order. She took out Tahlia McGrath and Deepti Sharma. This left Warriorz at 72-4 after 8 overs.

Shweta Sehrawat scored 31 runs off 25 balls, giving the chase a boost. However, Ellyse Perry took her wicket with figures of 1-10, shifting the momentum back to RCB. At 134-8, Sophie Ecclestone led a counterattack for UP Warriorz. She hit four sixes and a boundary, scoring 33 runs off just 19 balls. A last-over runout by Richa Ghosh ended the game in a dramatic tie at 180-9.

Ecclestone kept her momentum going by bowling an excellent Super Over. She limited RCB’s big hitters, Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh, to only four runs. This was in response to UP Warriorz’s nine runs. This secured UP Warriorz’ first Super Over win in WPL history. Now, they sit in third place on the points table.
