Jasprit Bumrah’s Bowling: Wasim Akram Explains What Makes Him Unstoppable
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star pacer, dazzles the cricket world. His unique bowling action and game-changing spells are the reason. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah was key to India’s 295-run win in the first Test in Perth. He took 8/72. Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram recently analyzed Bumrah’s bowling. He explained why he’s a terror for batters.
Wasim Akram’s Take on Bumrah’s Unique Action
During his commentary on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Akram gave insights into Bumrah’s technique. Star Sports, the series’ official broadcaster, shared a video of it. Highlighting Bumrah’s wrist action, Akram explained:
“Bumrah’s bowling arm comes from behind (the shoulder) the hyper-extension and in the end as we say in Punjabi “tunka” flick of the wrist that makes the ball skid which as a batsman you don’t expect specially on the wickets where the ball is keeping low, he has troubled the batsmen of that action which is natural and it is very tough to flick the wrist in the end.”
Akram added that Bumrah’s skidding ball is hard to predict. His wrist movement is hidden, too. This makes him tough to read, even for expert batters.
No batter is 💯confident when they see #JaspritBumrah rushing at them! 😅#JaspritBumrah‘s wrist action and skidding of the ball makes it unplayable for Aussie batters! 😁#AUSvINDOnStar 👉 2nd Test | FRI, 6th DEC, 8 AM only on Star Sports 1 | #ToughestRivalry pic.twitter.com/D59tfKyRIx

The Science Behind Bumrah’s Release Point
Bumrah’s ability to defy physics cements his status as one of the best bowlers in modern cricket. Most bowlers release the ball 10 cm ahead of the popping crease. But, Bumrah releases it 34 cm ahead, gaining an extra 24 cm over his peers. This unique release point forces batters to adjust. The ball hurries onto them quicker than expected.
Akram adds, “The release point of Bumrah’s delivery also differs by almost 40 cms and that makes a quite a big difference at this pace and that’s why his deliveries skid after pitching.”
A Match-Winner Through Adaptability
Bumrah is not a natural athlete. But, he has overcome many challenges. He is now a world-class bowler. His adaptability and unique skills have made him a nightmare for batters. His recent performance against Australia proves he can win matches.
