The ICC’s emergency meeting on the 2025 Champions Trophy is now postponed to November 30. It was set for November 29. Key discussions between the PCB, BCCI, and ICC will now take place on Saturday.
Postponement Details
In a last-minute development, the organizers delayed the emergency meeting on the Champions Trophy 2025 hosting dispute. It was to be held on Friday, November 29. The new meeting is on November 30, Saturday. PCB, BCCI, and ICC must join by video conference.
Revsportz says PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is in Dubai, home of the ICC. The reason for the postponement is undisclosed.
Why Did ICC Call for an Emergency Meeting?
The ICC summoned this meeting to address a conflict. It is between the BCCI and the PCB over the 2025 Champions Trophy hosting rights.
The BCCI, led by Roger Binny, said the Indian government has not issued a No Objection Certificate for the team’s trip to Pakistan for the tournament. The BCCI, due to the stalemate, proposed a hybrid hosting model. It’s like the format used in the 2023 Asia Cup. Matches would be split between host and neutral venues.
However, the PCB remains firm on hosting the tournament entirely in Pakistan. The disagreement has delayed the ICC in finalizing the tournament schedule. This has frustrated stakeholders and may cause financial losses.
Agendas of the ICC Emergency Meeting
Reports say the ICC is weighing two solutions to resolve the deadlock between the PCB and BCCI:
Option 1: Neutral Venue for Select Matches
- India’s group stage matches, one semi-final, and the final would be hosted in a neutral country.
- The UAE is the top candidate. It is close to India and Pakistan.
Option 2: All Matches in Pakistan (Conditional)
- If the Indian team fails to qualify, both semi-finals and the final would be in Pakistan.
These proposals aim to solve the logistical and political issues. They should also avoid delaying the tournament schedule any further.
The emergency meeting on November 30 is crucial. It will determine the fate of the Champions Trophy 2025. With high financial stakes, there’s pressure to finalize plans. So, all eyes are on the ICC, BCCI, and PCB to resolve the issue.
