Former Player Criticizes India’s Stand on ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Hosting
The dispute over the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy has sparked heated debates. The BCCI refuses to send its team to Pakistan due to security concerns. The BCCI is proposing a compromise. It wants a hybrid model. India’s matches would be in the UAE, while others would be in Pakistan. The ICC has reportedly warned Pakistan. Accept the hybrid model or forfeit its hosting rights.
Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has entered the controversy. He urged the PCB to act against India’s “double standards” in cricket diplomacy.
ICC’s Proposed Hybrid Model Sparks Dispute
The ICC’s push for a hybrid model has put the PCB in a challenging position. Pakistan planned to host the entire tournament. But, to address India’s security concerns, the governing body is now considering a hybrid solution.
The PCB, however, is negotiating for concessions. Reports suggest that Pakistan has set two conditions. They want a bigger share of ICC revenues. Also, they want a hybrid hosting model for ICC tournaments in India through 2031.
Despite the talks, tensions are high. Both sides refuse to budge.
Kamran Akmal Calls Out “Double Standards”
Former wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal is frustrated. He sees inconsistencies in India’s approach to cricketing ties.
“Enough is enough. Pakistan played in India during the 2016 T20 World Cup. Our match was moved from Dharamshala to Kolkata due to security concerns. “Pakistan agreed to play in Ahmedabad in the 2023 ODI World Cup, despite some concerns,” Akmal told Telecom Asia Sport.
Akmal further criticized India’s refusal to play in Pakistan. It hosted matches involving Pakistan on Indian soil. “This is a clear double standard. They cite political issues to avoid playing in Pakistan. But, they have no issues hosting us in their country.”
The former cricketer urged the PCB to decide. He said, “Pakistan must stick to their stance.” Taking a strong position will benefit Pakistan in the long run.”
PCB’s Next Move
As the debate unfolds, the PCB faces a critical decision. Accepting the hybrid model under pressure could hurt its position. But, rejecting it may cost Pakistan the Champions Trophy, a prestigious tournament.
The cricket world awaits a resolution to this standoff. It could set a precedent for hosting rights and security in international cricket.
