ICC Player of the Month: Shubman Gill gets the honor, Smith-Phillips left behind
Shubman Gill has been awarded the Player of the Month award by the ICC before the IPL. Gill has received this award for the third time. He won this award by defeating Australian legend Steve Smith and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips.

The ICC has announced the Player of the Month for February 2025. India’s star batsman Shubman Gill has won this award. Before the IPL, the ICC has also acknowledged Gill’s strength. During this time, Gill has left behind Australian legend Steve Smith and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips who were giving him tough competition. Gill, who gave a memorable performance with the bat in the ICC Champions Trophy and the limited overs home series against England, won this award on Wednesday, beating Australia’s Steve Smith and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips.

Shubman Gill scored 406 runs in five ODIs in February at an average of 101.50 and a strike rate of 94.19. He played an important role in India’s 3-0 win by scoring two half-centuries and a century in the three-match ODI series against England.
He scored 87 in the first ODI played in Nagpur, 60 in the second ODI played in Cuttack and then 112 in the third ODI played in Ahmedabad. By hitting 14 fours and three sixes in a 102-ball innings in Ahmedabad, he was successful in winning the Player of the Match award along with the Best Player of the Series award.

He continued this excellent rhythm in the Champions Trophy as well. After playing an innings of 101 against Bangladesh in India’s first match in Dubai, he scored 46 against Pakistan. India managed to win both these matches easily. This is the third ICC Player of the Month honor for Gill. He had earlier won it twice in 2023 (January and September).
Shubman Gill will play for Gujarat Titans in the upcoming season of IPL. He has been retained by Gujarat for ₹ 16.50 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. He will captain this team. Right-handed batsman Gill has been made the captain of Gujarat Titans after the departure of Hardik Pandya. He has played 103 IPL matches.
