Big Drop for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in ICC Test Rankings
Star Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma experienced significant setbacks in the latest ICC Test Rankings for batters following India’s crushing 10-wicket loss to Australia in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide last week. Kohli dropped six places to rank 20th. Rohit fell out of the top 30, landing at 31st after a five-place slide.
Kohli’s Ranking Hit After Adelaide Performance
The former Indian captain struggled in Adelaide, scoring 7 and 11. This came despite Kohli’s resurgence earlier in the series. He smashed his 30th Test century in Perth.
Rohit Sharma Drops Out of Top 30
Rohit Sharma had a tough outing, scoring only nine runs in both innings in Adelaide. He was demoted to the No. 6 position in the batting order, adding to his woes as he lost his place among the top 30 Test batters.
Current Indian Players in the Top 10
In the rankings shakeup, only two Indian batters are in the ICC Test top 10: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant. Jaiswal climbed to an impressive 4th spot, while Pant dropped three places to 9th. Shubman Gill, another rising talent, is 17th. He’s the third-highest Indian batter on the list.
Harry Brook Overtakes Joe Root as World No. 1
In a landmark moment for England cricket, Harry Brook surpassed Joe Root to claim the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings. Brook’s recent performances, including his eighth Test century against New Zealand in Wellington, propelled him to 898 rating points, one ahead of Root’s 897.
This marks the end of Root’s reign as the top batter. He has held that position since July after surpassing Kane Williamson. Brook’s achievement ties him with Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. They share the 34th highest rating in Test cricket history.
ICC Statement on Ranking Changes
“A changing of the guard at the top of the Test batter rankings, while stars from Australia and South Africa make big gains on the updated list,” ICC stated in a statement.
