Jasprit Bumrah Returns to the Top of ICC Test Rankings

India’s ace fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, reclaimed the No. After a great performance in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, he is now No. 1 in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers. Bumrah took eight wickets, including a fiery five-wicket spell in the first innings. This propelled him past South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, who dropped to No. 2.

This marks Bumrah’s return to the top of the rankings for the second time in 2024, following a brief stint at No. 1 in October. The Indian spearhead now leads the bowling charts with 883 points. He’s ahead of Rabada (872) and Hazlewood (860).

Bumrah’s Match-Winning Spell in Perth

Bumrah shone in Perth, where India beat Australia by 295 runs. In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Bumrah led the team. He was nearly unplayable on a pace-friendly pitch. He took 5 for 26 in the first innings, bundling Australia out for just 104 after India managed a modest 150.

In the second innings, Bumrah bowled brilliantly. Australia was 12 for 3 at Stumps on Day 3. His relentless pace and accuracy dismantled the Australian batting order. It cemented his status as one of the world’s top fast bowlers.

India’s Dominance in Perth

Bumrah’s heroics and a strong batting effort won India the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a stunning 161, supported by Virat Kohli (100) and KL Rahul (77). India declared at 487/6, setting Australia an impossible target.

While the pitch eased slightly on Days 3 and 4, Bumrah’s precision kept the Aussies under pressure. He found able support from Mohammed Siraj, who climbed three spots to No. 25 after taking five wickets in the match.

Focus Shifts to Border-Gavaskar Trophy

India now leads the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-0 and looks set to build on their momentum. With Bumrah in top form and Siraj rising, the Indian bowlers should dominate the series.
