ICC Threatens Strict Action Against India Over Jersey Controversy in Champions Trophy 2025
The BCCI has sparked a controversy ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It refused to wear jerseys featuring Pakistan’s name. The ICC has warned India to ensure all teams follow the rule to have the host nation’s name on their jerseys.
India’s Refusal and the Hybrid Model Controversy
Pakistan, the official host of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, will run the tournament in a hybrid model. The BCCI decided not to send the Indian team to Pakistan due to security concerns. India will play its matches in Dubai, while other teams will compete in Pakistan.
Despite this, the BCCI has refused to display Pakistan’s name on their jerseys. They cite opposition to the host nation’s identity being featured.
ICC’s Firm Stand on Tournament Rules
A-Sport, quoted by NDTV, reported that the ICC demands all teams to follow tournament rules. This includes wearing jerseys with the host nation’s name.
” The ICC has asked the Indian team to sport the jersey with Pakistan written on it. The ICC will not allow any team to go against the rule, and with Pakistan hosting the tournament, their name has to be on the players’ jerseys,” according to a report in A-Sport, as quoted by NDTV.
“It is the responsibility of every participating nation to put the tournament logo in their jerseys. All the teams must follow this rule,” an ICC official said.
The governing body warned the BCCI of severe consequences if Indian players compete in the Champions Trophy without jerseys featuring Pakistan’s name.
PCB Criticizes BCCI’s Stance
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is surprised and disappointed by India’s refusal to follow the norm.
“It is surprising to see BCCI playing politics. They refused to play in Pakistan and are not sending Rohit Sharma to the country. Even they have a problem with Pakistan’s name on their jerseys. ICC will not allow this to happen,” a PCB official said, as quoted by Express Sports.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Jersey Guidelines
The ICC requires all teams to display the tournament logo and the host nation’s name on their jerseys. This is part of the standard tournament rules. Not following this policy could result in severe penalties, including disqualification.
As the controversy grows, the ICC will likely intervene. They will resolve the standoff between the two cricketing giants and ensure the tournament runs smoothly.
