IND vs PAK Match in Sri Lanka: ICC Confirms Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025

The ICC has settled a dispute by finalizing a Hybrid Model for the 2025 Champions Trophy. It is between the BCCI and the PCB. The agreement states that the India vs Pakistan match will be in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This is a compromise between the two boards.

The decision follows months of talks. Pakistan refused to host matches without India. India declined to play in Pakistan. This hybrid setup allows India to play its matches in Dubai. Pakistan retains the tournament’s hosting rights.

Key Details of the Agreement

Hybrid Model Approved for Champions Trophy

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be in February and March. It will use a hybrid hosting model. India’s matches, including their group-stage game against Pakistan, will be held in neutral venues outside of Pakistan. Dubai will host most of India’s games. Colombo will host the high-stakes India vs Pakistan match.

This compromise was needed after the BCCI cited Indian travel restrictions to Pakistan.

According to Vikrant Gupta, the governing body of international cricket has refused to give any compensation to Pakistan for India’s matches in a different country.

“BIG CHAMPIONS TROPHY BREAKING: ICC Has approved Champions Trophy Hybrid – Pak and Dubai after agreement with PCB and BCCI. Both BCCI and PCB in principle have agreed for T20 World Cup 2026 that Pak won’t travel for the Ind-Pak league game to India and will play that in Colombo. No compensation for PCB. But they will get to host an ICC Women’s tournament after 2027,” Vikrant Gupta wrote on X

The hybrid model will extend to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as well. Pakistan will not travel to India for their league match against India. Instead, the game will also be held in Colombo.

This arrangement, similar to the Champions Trophy model, ensures that both teams can participate without compromising their respective positions.

How the Dispute Was Resolved

The conflict began when the BCCI said the Indian team would not play in Pakistan due to government restrictions. In response, Pakistan threatened to boycott the tournament. This put the Champions Trophy in jeopardy.

The ICC intervened. It warned the PCB of dire consequences if it refused to host the tournament under a hybrid model. The PCB eventually agreed but wanted a deal for ICC events in India until 2031.

What’s Next for the ICC and India-Pakistan Rivalry?

Experts expect the Champions Trophy to draw massive global attention, especially with the India-Pakistan rivalry as a central focus. The hybrid model solves some problems. But, tensions over bilateral matches remain between the BCCI and PCB.

With Pakistan set to host an ICC Women’s Tournament soon, the cricket world will watch closely as a new hybrid model for ICC events evolves.
