Shubman Gill Reveals Key Batting Discussion Ahead of Gabba Test

India’s batting woes in recent matches are a major concern. The team is haunted by six scores of 150 or less. Before the crucial third Test against Australia at the Gabba, Shubman Gill said the team’s main goal is to score a big first innings total.

At a pre-match press conference, Gill, back from a finger injury, stressed the batting group’s focus on consistency. He wants to use their game plans to tackle Australia’s strong bowlers.

“As a batting group, we are looking to post a big total first up. That’s been the key discussion and every batter has his own game plan,” Gill said in the pre-match press conference.

India’s Recent Struggles with the Bat

India’s batting lineup is under scrutiny for not scoring big in recent matches. With six instances of totals below 150, the team is acutely aware of the need for improvement.

Reflecting on the series, Gill admitted the Adelaide defeat—a 10-wicket loss—was a wake-up call. But, he remained optimistic. It was a chance to reset.

“Adelaide Test, we didn’t do well but the series is still 1-1. We will treat it as a three-match Test series and if we win this one, we will have advantage going into Melbourne and Sydney,” Gill said.

Shubman Gill’s Performance and Role

Gill, who missed the first Test, made an impact in the second Pink Ball Test at Adelaide, scoring 31 and 28 in two innings. His scores were not massive. But, his brief stays at the crease showed his potential to anchor the innings at the top.

With a tough pitch at the Gabba, Gill must counter the new ball. It is vital to India’s hopes of a big first-innings total.

Rohit Sharma and Optional Training Sessions

Skipper Rohit Sharma’s absence from optional training raised questions. But, Gill clarified that the captain had already practiced a lot earlier.

“This was an optional session and he has already practised a lot.” said Gill.

Rohit’s absence comes amid criticism from former captain Sunil Gavaskar. He recently questioned out-of-form players for skipping optional net sessions. They had long breaks between matches.

India’s Focus on Turning the Series Around

With the series tied 1-1, the third Test at the Gabba holds immense significance for both sides. Gill’s remarks show the team’s resolve to bounce back from their loss to Adelaide. They want to make the most of the remaining matches.

Gill thinks a win in Brisbane could give India momentum. It would help them control the final two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney. He sees the rest of the series as a fresh start.

Time to Deliver for India’s Batting Unit

India’s batsmen, led by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, must rise to the occasion. They need to fix their recent struggles to score big in the first innings at the Gabba. With players like Shubman Gill stressing game plans, the team is focused. They are ready to make a statement.

India’s batting frailties must be fixed in the upcoming Test. This will be key to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s outcome.
