Jasprit Bumrah Out of Champions Trophy 2025: India Names Harshit Rana as Replacement
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star fast bowler, is out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this on Tuesday. His lower back injury is the reason for his absence. In his absence, Harshit Rana has been named as his replacement in India’s final 15-member squad.
In another shake-up, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is out of the squad. Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy replaces him.
Harshit Rana Replaces Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah hurt his back during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said he was given a five-week recovery period. The 31-year-old pacer couldn’t recover in time, so he’s out of the big tournament.
In his place, Harshit Rana, the 23-year-old fast bowler, has been drafted into the squad. Rana recently debuted in ODIs against England. He impressed everyone by taking four wickets in two matches.
Varun Chakaravarthy in, Yashasvi Jaiswal Out

In a surprising move, Varun Chakaravarthy has come in for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the final squad.
- Chakaravarthy earned his place after a great T20I series against England. He took 14 wickets in five matches and was named ‘Player of the Series.’
- Even though Jaiswal is India’s top run-scorer in 2024, he has only played one ODI. This opened a spot for the seasoned mystery spinner in the squad.
Non-Travelling Substitutes
BCCI has named three non-travelling substitutes who will be available as injury replacements:
- Yashasvi Jaiswal (Batsman)
- Mohammed Siraj (Pacer)
- Shivam Dube (All-rounder)
These players will remain on standby and will travel to Dubai if required.
