KL Rahul to Play ODI Series vs England Ahead of Champions Trophy

The BCCI has ordered star batter KL Rahul to play in the ODI series against England. This is despite his request for a break. With the Champions Trophy coming soon, the board wants its key players fit for the matches.

BCCI Reaffirms KL Rahul’s Importance in ODIs

KL Rahul is key to India’s ODI setup. He is a middle-order batter and wicketkeeper. The BCCI is keen for him to gain critical match practice ahead of India’s Champions Trophy opener on February 20.

A source close to the matter told The Times of India (TOI):

“The selectors initially decided to rest Rahul, who plays in the middle order and is a wicketkeeper in the ODIs, from the entire white-ball series against England at home. However, they had a rethink and the BCCI has now asked him to play in the ODI series so that he gains some match practice ahead of the Champions Trophy in February,”  a source told TOI.

Rahul will, however, skip the T20I series. He needs rest before the ODI matches next month.

Rahul’s Crucial Role in the 2023 World Cup

Rahul’s strong play in the 2023 World Cup made him a key part of India’s batting lineup. His match-winning knocks were key to several wins in the tournament. They made him vital for the Champions Trophy campaign.
