Mithila Vinod Names Hardik Pandya and Ellyse Perry as Her Cricketing Idols
Mithila Vinod, a rising star from India, was key in the U-19 Women’s Cricket Team’s historic World Cup win over South Africa in Kuala Lumpur. This win was a big moment in her career. It fulfilled a dream that started when she was passed over for selection in 2023.
“In 2023, From the moment I didn’t get picked then, it was a dream for me to picture myself here in this edition, lifting the trophy.” Mithila told India Today.
Inspired by Her Father, Driven by Passion
Mithila fell in love with cricket as a kid. Her father played in corporate and office matches, which inspired her passion. Watching him ignited her passion for the game, leading her to take cricket seriously by the age of 11.
Seeing women cricketers succeed, she aimed to represent India. She began her journey at the state level.
Hardik Pandya: A Power-Hitting Inspiration

Mithila compared her batting style to Hardik Pandya’s. She admired his aggressive middle-order play and high strike rate.
“I find my playing style very similar to Hardik Pandya. If you see, he’s also a middle-order batter, a hard hitter of the ball with a high strike rate. I enjoy batting at that pace as well.” she said.
Ellyse Perry: A Childhood Idol

Ellyse Perry has been Ellyse’s ultimate idol since childhood. She sees Pandya as a role model for power-hitting.
“I have looked up a lot to Ellyse Perry since I started playing because she is someone you can rely on with both the ball and the bat. That’s the kind of player I want to be.” Mithila shared.
WPL Aspirations and RCB Support
Mithila looks forward to playing in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She also has a special fondness for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“Since I started watching the IPL, I have been a big RCB supporter. While I would be happy to play for any team, playing for RCB would be special,” she said.
A Strong Bond with Niki Prasad
Mithila talked about her long friendship with Niki Prasad. He led India’s U-19 team to a World Cup victory.
“Niki and I have been playing together for a very long time. Since the time I started, she has been there, and she’s actually my best friend. Playing with her is really enjoyable for me, and the bond we share is great, more than friends, it’s a family feeling.” she expressed.
The Road Ahead
Mithila Vinod has a World Cup title. Now, she wants to improve her game and join India’s senior national team.
