Pat Cummins Praises Virat Kohli After Fifth Test at Sydney Cricket Ground
Australia captain Pat Cummins has paid tribute to Indian star Virat Kohli. He acknowledged Kohli’s impact on the game after the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In a media interview, Cummins called Kohli a “great competitor.” He praised Kohli for adding drama and intensity to cricket.
Kohli, who struggled in the five-match series in Australia, got only one century in the opener. He was repeatedly dismissed in the slips by Australian pacers. Despite his ups and downs, Cummins admired Kohli’s impact on the game.
“He has been a great competitor. Virat has scored a lot of runs and also brings theatre to cricket. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it can rile up the opposite numbers, which he wants,” Cummins said while speaking to the media.
“I have enjoyed playing with him. He has been one of the best batters in the last decade or so. It will be sad if it was his last series,” he added.
Kohli’s Future in Test Cricket in Doubt
The series in Australia may well be Kohli’s final Test tour Down Under. The former Indian captain may be dropped from the squad for the Test series against England. Kohli, once a top batter in world cricket, got just one century in the second innings of the first Test. He failed to convert starts in the other matches.
In five Tests, Kohli fell eight times in the slips. This exposed weaknesses against the Australian pacers.
Pat Cummins on Australia’s Series Victory
In reflecting on Kohli’s legacy, Cummins celebrated Australia’s 3-1 series win over India. “It is a big win for us. The series kept moving from one team to another. The margin of 3-1 gives you nice feeling.” the Australian skipper stated.
The win puts Australia in the World Test Championship Final. They will face South Africa in June at Lord’s.
