Ravi Shastri Praises India’s Move to Include Jadeja Over Ashwin
India’s Strategic Changes in the Playing XI
Former India coach Ravi Shastri praised India’s decision. They replaced Ashwin with Jadeja for the third Test against Australia at the Gabba. The decision came after India’s 10-wicket loss in the second Test in Adelaide, prompting the team management to also bring in pacer Akash Deep for Harshit Rana.
Speaking on Star Sports, Shastri highlighted Jadeja’s value to the team.
“Ravindra Jadeja is too good a player to be left out. He is a good batter and take wickets with his slow bowling. He is always electrifying in the field. So I feel it is the right decision. Akash will enjoy bowling over here. I am sure he will have a good game,’” Ravi Shastri said on Star Sports.
Weather Considerations Influence Selection
David Warner, discussing team changes with Shastri, suggested using Washington Sundar in the XI. Shastri explained that weather conditions influenced the decision. “If it were a bright sunny day, Sundar could have played. With rain expected, the team chose Jadeja, a decision I fully support,” he added.
Rain Halts Gabba Action
The first session of the Test at Brisbane was interrupted by rain, which caused two stoppages. Play was halted after six overs. It resumed briefly before rain returned before lunch. Australia was 28-0 after 13.2 overs. Usman Khawaja was unbeaten on 19 and debutant Nathan McSweeney was on 4.
Australia’s Squad Changes
Australia made one change to their lineup, bringing in Josh Hazlewood for Scott Boland. Hazlewood returned to the XI after a side strain. It kept him out of the second Test in Adelaide.
