Ravindra Jadeja Out of India’s Champions Trophy Squad? CSK Star Faces ODI Snub Threat

Ravindra Jadeja’s spot in India’s ODI squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy is at risk. He is a veteran all-rounder. After a poor tour of Australia, Jadeja’s performances have worried selectors. India is preparing for a crucial three-match ODI series against England. The series, starting February 6, will be India’s last prep for the big tournament.

Jadeja’s Struggles Spark Selection Doubts

The Times of India (TOI) reports that the BCCI panel is unsure about Ravindra Jadeja’s spot in ODIs. Jadeja’s bowling has been steady. But, his batting, especially as a finisher, has declined. This is a concern.

“Gambhir has been very assertive about creating core teams according to formats. As of now, he hasn’t quite tinkered with the longer formats but has a clear vision for creating a strong base for the ODI World Cup. He is keen on giving exposure to a few more identified players. It’s all about when the selectors decide the transition needs to kick in. They will discuss if they want to go with a safe option in Jadeja or move on right now,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI.

The selectors are torn. Should they stick with Jadeja, a “safe option,” or start using younger players who fit their long-term vision? “Even in Test cricket, he has struggled to get going, though his bowling has been steady. There is an urge to move on from him, especially in the ODI format. It will be a tough call in the coming,” he added.

Axar Patel’s Rise Impresses Selectors

Jadeja‘s main rival is Axar Patel. He is a strong contender for the spin-bowling all-rounder spot. Axar has been in great form. He can play explosive knocks in the lower order. He also has his trademark accuracy with the ball.

Selectors have noted Axar’s ability to deliver under pressure. This could make him a great fit for India’s plans in the Champions Trophy. Alongside Axar, Washington Sundar has been another option. He is a versatile spinner and a reliable batsman.

Tough Decision Ahead for BCCI

The ODI series against England will be vital for India’s Champions Trophy squad. If Jadeja doesn’t perform, younger players could replace him. They are Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.

India’s Champions Trophy team shows Gambhir’s strong work as a selector. He wants to find players suited to specific formats.

The Road Ahead

With the ODI series against England approaching, all will watch Ravindra Jadeja. They want to see if he can silence his critics and secure his spot in the squad. Jadeja must excel with both bat and ball to stay in India’s ODI plans. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are fierce competitors for his spot.
