Team India began the New Year on a high note. They attended a grand reception at Kirribilli House in Sydney. It was hosted by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The Australian cricket team joined the Indian squad to celebrate the New Year. It was a rare, memorable moment in their fierce 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy battle.
A Warm Welcome at Kirribilli House
The Australian PM welcomed players and officials from both cricketing nations to Kirribilli House. He offered a moment of camaraderie away from the cricket’s intensity. The event had lighthearted interactions between the players. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, got a warm reception.

The next day, the BCCI shared a video of highlights from the visit. The video, which went viral, showed Indian players, like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. They were engaging with dignitaries, including Prime Minister Albanese.
Gautam Gambhir’s Speech: A Special Moment
Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a heartfelt speech. It added a personal and emotional touch to the evening. He reflected on the challenges of touring Australia. He stressed the resilience needed to succeed in its tough cricketing environment.
“Australia is a beautiful country to travel, but a tough place to tour. Probably one of the toughest tours for any sportsman. Crowds have been absolutely amazing. We have got another Test match to go. Hopefully, we can entertain the crowd the way we entertained over the last four Test matches. Finally, thank you very much for hosting us again. Happy New Year.” Gambhir said.
Team India’s Struggles Add Weight to the Sydney Test
