Steve Smith, leading Australia as the stand-in captain, won the toss on Day 1 and opted to bat first on a turning pitch. Despite tough conditions, Australia’s batters showed great skill. Travis Head smashed 57 off 40 balls before Khawaja and Smith took full control.
On Day 2, Smith scored 141 runs before getting out. But, Khawaja kept batting, reaching his first Test double century.
