Watch: Virat Kohli Confronts Reporters Over Privacy Breach
Ahead of the highly anticipated Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli found himself at the center of a heated altercation with reporters and journalists at the Melbourne airport. Channel 7’s cameras caught Kohli’s frustration at a privacy invasion.
The dramatic incident unfolded soon after Kohli arrived in Melbourne. Tensions escalated as the cricketer clashed with a TV journalist. Kohli eventually walked away. But, he briefly turned back to confront the reporters before leaving.
Why Did Kohli Lose His Cool?
Reports say Kohli became upset after seeing cameras on him. Channel 7 journalist Theo Doropoulos later explained that Kohli thought the media was filming his kids. This sparked the outburst.
“It was upon seeing the waiting cameras that Kohli became a little heated over what is largely a misunderstanding when he thought the media was filming him with his children.”
The interaction showed Kohli’s worry about his family’s privacy. He wanted to protect his children from the media’s relentless attention.
Kohli’s Heated Exchange
During the confrontation, Kohli was heard venting to the media.
“With my kids I need some privacy, you can’t film without asking me.”
Kohli’s concern for his family is understandable. But, his assertion was incorrect. Legally, as he was in a public space, the media was within its rights to film him without explicit consent.
However, it calmed down when it was made clear that Kohli’s children were not being recorded. Kohli, wanting to be nice, approached the Channel 7 cameraman later to clear up the misunderstanding. He then extended his hand in apology.
Kohli’s Recent Struggles on the Field
The airport incident comes amid growing concern over Kohli’s form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kohli dazzled with a century in the second innings of the Perth Test. But, he has struggled for consistency. His recent dismissals raise concerns about his technique and mindset.
As India readies for the Boxing Day Test, Kohli’s form is key. The series is tied at 1-1.
