Urvil Patel’s T20 World Record: Two Centuries in Under 40 Balls
Indian batter Urvil Patel made T20 history. He is the first to hit two centuries in under 40 balls. Patel’s record-breaking feat came in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match. It was for Gujarat against Uttarakhand on Tuesday. It was at the Emerald High School Ground. His blistering 36-ball hundred powered Gujarat to an eight-wicket win in just 13.1 overs.
This achievement follows his stunning 28-ball century, just six days earlier. It was also in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, against Tripura on the same ground. That knock set the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian. It solidified Patel’s reputation as a destructive batter.
Patel’s Match-Winning Century Against Uttarakhand
Chasing 183, Patel launched a breathtaking assault. He finished unbeaten on 115 off just 41 balls. He hit 11 sixes and eight boundaries. This showed his ability to dominate any bowling attack. Thanks to his heroics, Gujarat comfortably chased down the target with 41 balls to spare.
Record-Breaking Performances in the Same Tournament
In an earlier tournament match, Patel scored an unbeaten 113 off just 35 balls. He hit it in Gujarat’s game against Tripura. That innings had 12 sixes and seven fours. It helped Gujarat chase a modest 156-run target in just 10.2 overs. His 28-ball century is the fastest by an Indian in T20s. It has a strike rate of 322.86, second only to Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan. He scored a 27-ball hundred earlier this year.
A History of Explosive Scoring
This isn’t Patel’s first taste of record-breaking innings. A year before his 28-ball T20 century, he scored a 41-ball ton against Arunachal Pradesh. It was the second-fastest List A hundred in Indian cricket history.
Overlooked in IPL Despite Stellar Form
The Gujarat Titans released the 26-year-old batter after the 2023 IPL season. They had signed him for Rs 20 lakh. He entered the IPL 2025 Mega Auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh but went unsold. Patel’s recent exploits, however, might make IPL franchises rethink their decision in the future.
