IPL 2025 Points Table:

League Table Rules: How Points, Net Run Rate, and Playoffs Work

In the league competition, teams earn points based on match outcomes:

  • 2 points for a win

  • 1 point for a no-result or tied match (where a Super Over is not possible)

  • 1 point if a match does not commence due to external factors (except for forfeits)

  • 0 points for a loss or forfeited match

Teams are ranked on the league table by total points, with the highest-ranked team at the top.

Tiebreaker Rules for Equal Points

If two or more teams finish with the same points, their ranking is determined as follows:

  1. Most Wins: The team with more wins in the season is ranked higher.

  2. Net Run Rate (NRR): If wins are also equal, the team with a superior NRR is placed higher.

  3. Wickets Taken per Fair Balls Bowled: If NRR is also equal, the team with more wickets taken per fair balls bowled is ranked higher.

  4. Drawing Lots: If all criteria remain equal, a random draw determines the final ranking.

Note: Playoff matches are not included in these calculations.

IPL Playoff Match Rules

In the event of a tie or no result in the Final, Eliminator, or Qualifier matches, the following rules apply:

  • Super Over: Teams compete in a Super Over to determine the winner. If required, multiple Super Overs will be played.

  • League Table Position: If Super Overs can’t occur due to conditions, the team higher on the league table wins.

Net Run Rate Calculation

NRR is calculated as follows:

NRR= ( Average Runs Scored per Over ) − ( Average Runs Conceded per Over )

Key considerations:

  • If a team gets all out before finishing its overs, we still count the full number of overs.

  • Only matches with results count toward NRR.

  • In rain-affected matches with the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, they adjust the targets.

These league table rules create a fair ranking system. They help decide playoff spots and final standings during the season.
